In Math for the past 2 weeks we have been working in the book How Many Pockets? How Many Teeth? This unit introduces students to organizing and representing numerical data. In the first investigation the students kept track of and organized data about the ages of the students in our classroom, how many siblings we have and how many letters are in our name. The students had to use conventional representations such as line plots and bar graphs.
I think it's amazing that 2nd graders can collect data, organize it, and create a representation of their data. You rock kids! Keep up the great work!
In Science we are discussing the Nature of Matter. We learned about the physical properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Solids have a definite shape and liquids and gases take the shape of their container such as a cup, a balloon, or a plastic bag.
We are enjoying our Weekly Reader for Social Studies. Some of the things we discussed last month:
- Being A Poet
- What's up in Space
- Earth Helpers: Celebrating Earth Day April 22nd.
- Getting Wet! What is the water cycle.
