Our Holiday Play “Once on the Housetop” rehearsal is in full swing!
We are working very hard at school learning all the songs for our play. Please have your child practice their speaking part at home daily. Our dress rehearsal will be on Tuesday December 7, 2010, at 2:15pm. Our evening performance will be at 7:30 pm. The children should wear a plain white shirt with nice jeans. We will be providing each child a scarf to wear. We are looking forward to a fun filled evening!

Busy Times in 2nd Grade

So much to do so little time!
In Math we played the game Beat the Calculator.

In PE we learned all about Bike Safety with Coach Bailey, Coach Robinson, Coach Hall and Coach Leclair. Ask your child what they learned about Bike Safety last week.

Bean Biologists at Work Part Two

We have finished our study of beans. After seeing that one part of the embryo becomes the root and the rest becomes the upper stem and leaves, the students were very pleased at the way their beans grew. They noticed that the stored food got smaller, which helped the plant grow. They loved seeing the roots beneath the dirt. The beans that were planted and placed in the closet also grew. That plant was not as green as the one we planted near the window. We concluded that with sunlight, plants grow stronger and greener. We took our plants outside and planted them in our school garden with hopes of bean pods coming next.
In Science, we have moved on to studying and testing the properties of Matter. We made slime and tested the properties. Ask your child if slime is a solid or a liquid?? Look for more to come on Matter.
