Whew! Lots of learning going on in Room #204! Our fieldtrip to JCA Theatre was great! We celebrated the 100^th day of school with lots of fun activities. Mrs. Zak shared the tradition of Mardi Gras with us on Friday. Ask your child about the “oz-some” things happening in our classroom!

Our students loved all the attention from the other 2^nd grade teachers observing a lesson Mrs. Holtsman taught to kick off our next unit of study in Writing. Ask your student about the visit.

Last week we started a new unit in Math, Shapes Blocks, and Symmetry. Check out some snapshots of the students ordering rectangles and learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Ask your students about the things we are learning in Room #204.

Happy New Year 2015! Our first week back was full of learning. We had several visits from our Reading Coach Mrs. Holtsman. Mrs. Holtsman read us a funny fractured fairy tale. She used her Cajun/French accent to entertain us. It was so funny! Later in the week she helped us understand the importance of using a rubric to make our writing better. She also gave us great tips during our Reading Workshop block. We are thinking like 3^rd graders. In Science we started the Weather unit. We did a fun lab using thermometers and had a great time observing the weather. Check out our slide show to peek into our first week of 2015! Enjoy!

We have just begun our reading clubs. The students are excited to be working in groups and they love reading! The students are using their sticky notes to jot thoughts for discussions with their club mates. As they were reading today the students were looking for how a character might feel.We can do big thinking, jotting what is different about characters and surprising moments. Looking forward to the student's discoveries!

PRACTICE Emergency Evacuation!!

On Monday, November 17, 2014 at 10:00 our school will be participating in a drill to practice evacuating the school to our designated off site safe area.  Our evacuation site is Chets Creek Church and students will walk from the school to their building, be seated in designated areas for a short period of time and then walk back to the school.  The drill should take no longer than one hour from start to finish.  During this time we will not be able to check students in or out and there will be no one at the school to answer the phone.  Please make arrangements accordingly.  Thank you for supporting us as we work to insure that your children are safe.
